Women's Soccer Moves Winning Streak To Eight Games

Salamone scores twice in win

Newburgh, N.Y. –  Four different players scored for the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team as it cruised to a 5-0 victory against Maritime to extend its winning streak to eight games. Sophomore Alexandra Salamone (Sound Beach, N.Y.) led the scoring attack with a pair of goals.

Salamone scored her first goal of the season at the seven minute mark to put the Mount on top for good. She scored a second goal in early in the second half to put the Knights up 4-0.

Theresa Stinson (Troy, N.Y.) scored her team leading seventh goal of the season in the closing seconds of the first half, Claire Newman (Cromwell, C.T.) scored her third goal of the season and Nikki Carter (Southington, C.T.) scored her second goal of the year for the Knights.

Hannah Chinsky (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Brittany Bornstad (Linden, N.J.) picked up the assists on each of Salamone's goals. Bornstad's helper moves her team lead in the category to six.

The Knights dominated the game throughout by outshooting the Privateers, 40-4. They also held the shots on goal advantage by a count of 22-2 and the corner kicks advantage of 9-1 went to the Knights as well.

Cassidy Rykowski (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) picked up her eighth victory of the season as she posted a combined shutout  with Kelly Platt (Staten Island, N.Y.). Rykowski made two saves on the night.

Cammie Havens made the start in net for the Privateers, making 15 saves on the night.

Tuesday's win moves the Mount to 11-4-1 overall for the season and 7-0-0 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is Old Westbury on Saturday at Kaplan Field. Senior Day kickoff with the Panthers is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
