New Paltz, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team returned to action on Friday, falling to Stockton 17-25, 11-25, 14-25 and topping Southern Vermont 25-15, 25-11, 25-10 on the opening day of the New Paltz Hawks Invitational.
Nicole Spinelli (Wantagh, N.Y.) closed out the win with a career-high 12 kills for the Knights.
Stockton 3 – Mount Saint Mary 0
Ally Klesin (Glendale, N.Y.) led the Mount against the Ospreys with seven kills and a .313 hitting percentage to go along with six digs. Spinelli put away six kills against Stockton with sophomore
Madelyn Barberan (Fishkill, N.Y.) adding four winners for the Knights and a team-high 12 digs.
Junior
Kim Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) finished off the match with 21 assists for the Knights and seven digs and collected the team's lone service ace in the match.
Julimar Figueroa (Dorado, Puerto Rico) finished up the contest with 10 digs for the Mount.
Stockton was paced by 15 kills from Stephanie Kovacs, who hit .286 in the match and received eight winners and eight digs from Sarah Walsh. Emily Sullivan led all players in the match with 30 assists, while Kara Glynn led three players with at least 13 digs with a match-high 22.
Stockton finished the match with a 45-27 advantage in kills, a 6-0 edge in total team blocks and a 5-1 advantage in service aces.
Mount Saint Mary 3 – Southern Vermont 0
The Knights rebounded in their second match of the day and stopped a four match losing streak with the sweep of Southern Vermont. The Knights dominated the match with a 38-10 advantage in kills, a 2-0 edge in blocks and a 16-4 advantage in service aces.
Spinelli rounded out the night hitting .688 with a career-high 12 kills in 16 chances. She added four aces and a block for the Mount in their second victory of the season.
Freshman
Danielle Kralik (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) also recorded career-high with seven kills, hitting .438 in the match, to go along with four aces and three digs. Barberan finished the match with five winners, three aces and eight digs for the Knights.
Gries handed out 28 assists in the victory and
Chelsea Barberan (Fishkill, N.Y.) lifted nine digs and was one of six players with at least one ace, with a pair of winners in the service game.
Friday's split moves Mount Saint Mary to 2-5 overall on the season. The Knights will close out play at New Paltz on Saturday against the host Hawks and Montclair State starting at 11:00 a.m.
