Women’s Soccer Cruises To Home Opening Win Over Cobleskill

Ribadeneyra posts eight points in victory

Newburgh, N.Y. – Led by three goals and eight points from senior Destiny Ribadenyera (Maybrook, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team opened its home schedule on Thursday with an impressive 10-0 win over visiting Cobleskill.
 
Mount Saint Mary featured six different goals scorers in the game and four players with at least one goal and one assist. Ribadeneyra tallied a hat trick for the Knights and assisted on a pair of goals, moving into first place on the team in goals with four and points with 10.
 
Senior Bridget McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y.) and sophomore Theresa Stinson (Troy, N.Y.) each turned in five point performances on Thursday, scoring twice and assisting on a goal. Freshman Haley Murphy (Massapequa, N.Y.) also turned in a strong performance, scoring her first career goal and adding an assist in the win.
 
Seniors Allison Jones (Merrick, N.Y.) and Jessica Lanning (Hicksville, N.Y.) each tallied for the first time in 2017 against Cobleskill, while Emma Costa (Rocky Point, N.Y.) picked up her first assist of the season, helping on the game winning goal.
 
A pair of Mount Saint Mary goalkeepers combined for the team's second shutout of the season, with Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) making the start and playing the initial 31:27 and freshman Cassidy Rykowski (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) coming on to play a career-high 58:33. Samantha Springstead finished the contest with 19 saves for the Fighting Tigers.
 
Mount Saint Mary finished the night with a commanding 50-1 advantage in shots, including a 29-0 edge in shots on goal. Mount Saint Mary also shutout Cobleskill in corner kicks, 12-0, including taking eight in the first 45 minutes of action.
 
Thursday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 2-0-1 overall on the season. The Knights return to action on Saturday when they travel across the river to take on local foe Vassar. Kick-off in Poughkeepsie is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
