Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team returned to play over the weekend at the Vassar Invitational. The Knights were blanked by Vassar on Saturday, 3-0, to open the event and rebounded on Sunday to score at 3-1 victory over Bard. Senior
Bridget McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y.) scored twice for the Knights in Sunday's win.
Vassar 3 – Mount Saint Mary 0
Vassar did all of its scoring in the initial 28 minutes of the game with Audrey Pillsbury opening the scoring in the ninth minute with the eventual game winning goal. She finished off a feed from Sara Seper at 8:44 to open the scoring in the game.
Ashley Ferry added her second goal of the season in the 21
st minute to give the Brewers a 2-0 lead and Emma Lavelle closed out the scoring with a penalty kick goal at 27:12 to give Vassar the final three goal advantage.
Vassar outshot the Mount 17-12 overall in the game and 13-6 in shots on goal, while corner kicks in the game were even at 4-4.
Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) led the Mount in the game with six shots, including three on goal.
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) suffered the loss in goal, but made a season-high 10 saves in the contest. Fiona Walsh earned the win for Vassar with six saves in the game.
Mount Saint Mary 3 – Bard 1
The Knights rounded out the tournament with a two goal win over local foe Bard on Sunday. All the scoring took place took place after halftime, including three strikes from the Knights in the first eight minutes of the second half.
McKeever opened the scoring for the Mount at 48:02 when she tucked a shot inside the upper right corner before the Raptors responded with the tying goal just under two minutes later on a free kick from Dylan McDonald.
At 50:40 the Knights got the eventual game winning goal off the foot of Ribadeneyra with McKeever assisting on the play. McKeever played a ball into the box that Ribadeneyra finished off for her second game winning goal of the season.
The Mount got an insurance goal in the 53
rd minute when McKeever finished off a five point day with her second goal of game. She was the recipient of a pass from Ribadeneyra that was finished off for the final 3-1 lead.
With three points on Sunday, Ribadeneyra leads the Knights with five goals and 13 points, while McKeever is tied for the team lead with three assists and is second on the team in points with 11.
Riley picked up the win in goal with eight more saves in the win with Tessa Greenhalgh stopping six shots for Bard in the loss.
Mount Saint Mary finished the day with a slim 13-12 edge in overall shot, while shots on goal were even in the game at 9-9. Bard finished the day with a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
At 3-1-1 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary will be off until a non-conference road game at New York University on September 16. Kick-off at Gaelic Park in Riverdale is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
