Riverdale, N.Y. – Playing its second true road game of the early season, the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at New York University Saturday evening. Senior goalkeeper
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) finished the game with five stops for the Knights.
NYU got the eventual game winning goal late in the first half on Saturday. Nalani Ogawa potted her first goal of the season at 36:01. The goal was the only score of the first half, but the Violets headed to the break with an 8-1 advantage in shots.
NYU doubled its lead in the 61
st minute on an Alex Benedict goal. Her third goal of the season came at the 60:51 to close out the scoring in the game.
NYU finished the game with a 15-4 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in shots on goal and also took all five corner kicks in the game.
Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) led the Mount with three shots, including two on goal.
With her five stops on Saturday, Riley has made 32 saves and holds a 1.50 goals against and an .800 save percentage. NYU used a pair of keepers, with Meghan Marhan making a pair of stops.
At 3-2-1 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary opens Skyline Conference play on Tuesday when it plays host to Yeshiva. Kick-off with the Maccabees is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
