Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Knights Rally Past Wisconsin-Stout In Overtime, 3-2

Cavallo pots game winner in 97th minute

Baltimore, Md. – Senior Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) tied the score with just under two minutes left in regulation with her first goal of the year and senior Nicole Cavallo (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) gave the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team its first win of the season with the overtime game winner just over six minutes into the first extra frame. The Knights ended the Johns Hopkins Tournament with a 1-0-1 record following Sunday's 3-2 overtime win over Wisconsin-Stout.

Mount Saint Mary opened the scoring in the 28th minute when junior Maeve O'Sullivan (Garden City Park, N.Y.) broke through with the team's first goal of the season. She broke free down the middle and beat the keeper inside the right post for the early 1-0 advantage.

Wisconsin-Stout answered with two straight goals late in the first half to carry a 2-1 lead into the intermission. Sarah Dickmann evened the game at 1-1 on a penalty kick in the 34th minute and Nikki Sedivy finished off a Hannah Kirchner feed at the 43:13 mark of the contest to give the Blue Devils their first lead of the afternoon.

The one goal advantage held until the closing minutes of regulation time when the Knights leveled the score at 2-2. Ribadebeyra received and finished a feed from Bridget McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y.) on a 2-on-1 at the 88:10 mark to tie the score and send the Knights to their second overtime game of the weekend.

Just over six minutes into the first overtime period, the Knights broke through with the game winner off the foot of Cavallo. After Claire Newman (Cromwell, Conn.) was stopped on the Knights' first shot of the extra stanza, Cavallo collected the rebound and scored into an empty net to give the Knights the hard fought one goal victory.

McKeever led the Mount with three shots in the game and joined Newman in the assist column for the first time in 2017. O'Sullivan, Ribadebeyra and Cavallo all found the back of the net for the first time on the season, with Cavallo collecting her third career game winning goal.

After setting the program's career shutout record in Saturday's scoreless draw with #25 Rowan, senior Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) earned her first win of the season on Sunday. She made a single first half stop in the victory. Cassidy Rykowski (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) made her collegiate debut with just over 27 minutes in the second half, making one stop for the Knights.

Wisconsin-Stout finished the game with a slim 12-11 advantage in shots, while the Mount rounded out the game with an 8-4 edge in shots on goal. The Blue Devils took all six corner kicks awarded in the tilt, including five in the first half.

At 1-0-1 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary will open the home schedule on Thursday when it plays host to Cobleskill. Kick-off at Kaplan Field is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
