Newburgh, N.Y. – Three different players recorded a goal, including freshman
Nicolette Wurglics (Glendale, N.Y.) as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team collected a 3-1 non-conference win over visiting Neumann on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights got off to a good start when senior
Bridget McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y.) scored for the seventh time on the young season in the eighth minute. McKeever headed in a free kick started by
Allison Jones (Merrick, N.Y.) at the 7:50 mark for the early one goal lead.
The Mount doubled its lead in the 32
nd minute when senior
Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) scored her ninth goal of the season. She carried a ball into the attacking third and rifled a shot into the top right corner from the top of the box at 31:41 to give the Mount a two goal lead.
At the break, Mount Saint Mary held a 6-3 advantage in shots and took both corner kicks awarded in the frame. Mount Saint Mary keeper
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) made a pair of stops before the break, while Brittany Cullison made three first have stops for Neumann.
Coming out of halftime, the Knights built their lead to a commanding three goals 98 seconds after halftime. Jones started another free kick and following a Cullison save, Wurglics was there to clean up the rebound for her first career goal at 46:38.
Neumann put together a second half charge and got on the board in the 54
th minute when Anna Attardi scored her first goal of the campaign. She picked up loose ball in the box and snuck a shot inside the near post to finish off the scoring in the game.
Ribadeneyra moved her team lead in goals to nine and points to 21 with her tally on Saturday and picked up her team leading third game winning goal of the season. Wurglics became the 11
th different player to score a goal for the Mount and Jones moved into third on the team in points with eight.
Riley picked up her fifth win of the season on Saturday in goal after making five saves. She now has 37 stops on the year and a .787 save percentage and 1.45 goals against average. Cullison rounded out the day with eight stops for Neumann.
The Knights closed the game with an 18-7 overall shots and an 11-6 edge in shots on goal. Mount Saint Mary took three of the five corner kicks after the break and held a 5-2 edge in the category for the game.
Next up for the Mount is non-conference home game against Pratt on Sunday evening. Kick-off with the Cannoneers is set for 5:00 p.m.
