Baltimore, Md. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team opened the 2017 season on Saturday afternoon with a 0-0 draw against #25 Rowan in its first of two games at the Johns Hopkins Tournament. Senior goalkeeper
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) earned her 24
th career shutout in the game, moving into first place all-time at the Mount.
Riley kept the Profs off the board for 110 minutes on Saturday, making eight saves for the Knights. Riley stopped three shots prior to halftime on Saturday and after handling a single shot in the second frame, kept the game scoreless with four stops in the first overtime period.
After holding a slim 5-3 advantage in shots at halftime, Rowan outshot the Mount 13-1 after the break, including 9-0 over the 20 minutes of overtime. The Mount's final attempt in the game came on a
Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) shot that was blocked with 28:46 left in the second half.
Seniors
Bridget McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y.) and
Nicole Cavallo (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) along with freshman
Nicolette Wurglics (Glendale, N.Y.) added shots for the Mount on Saturday.
Darah Wagner led 10 different Rowan players with a shot with four attempts, with Cathryn McCarry adding three shots. Shelby Money picked up her first shutout of the season with three saves for the Profs.
Rowan finished the game with an 18-4 advantage in shots, including an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. The Profs took all seven corner kicks in the game, while fouls were whistled 10-8 against Rowan.
At 0-0-1 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary will return to action on Sunday when it takes on Wisconsin-Stout. Kick-off in Baltimore is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
