Men’s Soccer Falls Twice At Cardinal Classic; Sadofsky Named To All-Tournament Team

Senior tallied against Manhattanville on Sunday

Plattsburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team was dealt a pair of losses over the weekend at the Best Western Plus Cardinal Classic. The Knights dropped a 2-0 decision to host Plattsburgh State and a 3-2 decision to Manhattanville on Sunday. For his play over the two games, Joseph Sadofsky (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) was named to the event's All-Tournament Team.
 
Plattsburgh State 2 – Mount Saint Mary 0
After a scoreless first half on Saturday, the Cardinals struck twice in the middle stages of the second half to earn the two goal victory. Chris Robertson scored his fifth of the season for the eventual game winning goal in the 62nd minute before KyAir Hamilton added an insurance marker at 71 minutes to close out the scoring in the game.
 
Plattsburgh State outshot the Mount 27-6 overall in the game, including 12-2 in the second half, and held a 15-2 edge in shots on goal. Nick Ciani (Sussex, N.J.) and Sadofsky each finished the contest with a pair of attempts, including one shot on goal.
 
Mount Saint Mary held a slim 4-3 advantage in corner kicks in the game and freshman Jakup Myrtja (Newburgh, N.Y.) finished up with a career-high 13 saves for the Knights. Freshman Sean Madden (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) made his collegiate debut in the game, playing the final six minutes.
 
Manhattanville 3 – Mount Saint Mary 2
In the consolation game of the event on Sunday, the Mount found itself down 2-0 late in the first half before Joey Dolan (New Paltz, N.Y.) converted his second penalty kick of the season in the 39th minute. After the Valiants scored twice in the first 23 minutes of the tilt, Dolan scored for the fourth time in five games to slice the Knights' disadvantage in half heading into the intermission.
 
Jon Kyriakidis expanded the Manhattanville lead back to a pair of goals 1:24 into the second half with his second goal of the season before Saofsky brought the Mount back to within a goal with just under 28 minutes left in regulation time. He buried a shot from just outside the box to bring the Knights to within the final one goal decision.
 
Mount Saint Mary outshot Manhattanville 12-6 after halftime, including attempts from Sadofsky and Bereket Watts (Southold, N.Y.) in the final five minutes. The Mount finished with a 22-18 edge in shots for the game and a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks. Manhattanville held a slim 10-9 advantage in shots on goal for the day.
 
Myrtja got the call in goal again for the Knights, playing the full 90 minutes and making seven saves. Mrytja has started three of the five games for the Mount this season and leads the team with 27 saves.
 
At 2-3 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary opens Skyline Conference play on Wednesday when it plays host to Yeshiva. Kick-off at Kaplan Field is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
