Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team picked up its fourth straight win on Wednesday afternoon with a 6-0 non-conference road win at Bard. Freshman
Sal Rizzo (Smithtown, N.Y.) earned his first career win on the mound, while
Christopher Introcaso (Newburgh, N.Y.) posted two hits at the plate.
Mount Saint Mary did all of its scoring in the first inning on Wednesday, pushing across its six runs on four base hits. Joey Piugliese (Highland, N.Y) and
Nick Rizzo (Smithtown, N.Y.) led off the game with walks, before Introcaso reached on a bunt single to load the bases with no one out.
After a fielder's choice cut down a runner at home,
Kevin Edgar (Southampton, N.Y.) drove in the Knights' first run with a single to center field.
Michael Doxey (Highland, N.Y.) drew the Mount's third walk of the game to push home the team's second run of the inning in front of a run scoring fielder's choice from
Peter Knights (White Plains, N.Y.).
The scoring continued on an RBI infield single off the bat of
Matthew Kozireski (Montgomery, N.Y.) and Pugliese rounded out the scoring in the inning and the game with a run scoring single that chased home Korizreski in his second at –bat of the frame.
Neither team scored the rest of the way, with the Knights picking up six more hits, including a double from
Nick Rizzo in the sixth inning. Bard was limited to six hits in the game and moved a runner into scoring position just six times.
Nine different Knights finished with a hit in the win, with Introcaso the lone player with multiple safeties. He rounded out the game 2-for-3 with a run scored. Rizzo finished 1-for-3 with a run, walk and stolen base with Knights scoring a run and stealing a pair of bases.
Sal Rizzo worked a career-high 5.2 shutout innings as he moved to 1-1 on the season in two starts. He allowed five hits and struck out five against three walks for the Mount.
Michael Tancredi (Floral Park, N.Y.) worked 1.1 scoreless innings in relief with
Christian Spano (Mahopac, N.Y.) and
James McCleary (Floral Park, N.Y.) working clean frames out of the bullpen.
Wednesday's win moves Mount Saint Mary to 9-23 overall on the season heading into the final weekend of the regular season. The Knights put their four game run on the line Friday morning when they take on league rival Yeshiva. First pitch in Ridgefield Park, N.J. is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
