Mount Saint Mary Pulls Away From Mount Saint Vincent

De Meo posts 11 points, Knights tie team assist mark

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team finished with the most shots in a game in program history and tied the single game record for assists with 17 as it pulled away in the second half from the College of Mount Saint Vincent for a 21-7 Skyline Conference win. Junior Dylan De Meo (Franklin Square, N.Y.) led the offensive attack with 11 points.

The Knights and Dolphins were locked up in a tight contest until the Mount erupted for 13 second half goals and allowed just one marker to the visitors after the intermission. After trailing three times in the first half, the Mount got goals from De Meo and Nicholas Graziano (Franklin Square, N.Y.) to take the lead for good and carry an 8-6 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Knights scored six times in the third period, including the final four goals of the stanza, to pull in front 14-7. The Knights blanked the Dolphins in the final 15 minute segment on its way to a season-high goal total.

Tuesday's goal total is the second highest in a game in program history and the 17 assists matches the number of helpers recorded against Penn State Abington on February 25, 2012. The team point total of 38 is also the second highest single game total for the Knights, trailing only the 42 amassed against Penn State Abington.

Mount Saint Mary featured 11 different goal scorers, led by four goals from freshman Michael Gallucci (Northport, N.Y.). Danny Kugler (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) finished with six points, scoring three times and helping on three other tallies. Graziano added three goals and Billy Holland (Pearl River, N.Y.) scored twice for the Knights. Tristan Earle (Millrift, Pa.) closed the night with a goal and three helpers.

De Meo continued his standout junior season with three markers and eight assists for the Mount to lead the offense. It is the fourth double-digit point game in program history and is the second highest total in program history. He rounded out a strong game with four groundballs and three caused turnovers.

Sophomore Peter Beidl (Clifton Park, N.Y.) picked up three groundballs and caused three turnovers, with Earle, Gergory Ruocco (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Kenneth Gallagher (Northport, N.Y.) all scooping five groundballs. Joseph Timmons (Staten Island, N.Y.) won 12 face-offs and picked up five groundballs in the win.

The Knights used a trio of goalies in the game, with Christopher Doerr (Pleasantville, N.Y.) earning the win with two saves in 45 minutes of action. A.J. Galletta (Commack, N.Y.) made a single save in just under 12 minutes of work and Alec Durkin (Mattituck, N.Y.) made his first career appearance in the fourth quarter.

Mount Saint Mary finished with a 58-20 advantage in shots in the game, including a 35-10 edge in shots on goal. Groundballs went to the Knights 53-33 and the Mount won 18 of the 32 face-offs taken in the game. Mount Saint Mary was an efficient 14-for-15 in clearing attempts and scored twice with the man advantage.

Tuesday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 4-5 overall on the season and to 2-1 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is a home date with Montclair State on Saturday. Face-off at Kaplan Field is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
