Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

De Meo Becomes All-Time Point Leader In Skyline Victory Over St. Joseph’s-L.I.

Junior posts six points; Doerr makes 15 saves

Newburgh, N.Y. – Junior Dylan De Meo (Franklin Square, N.Y.) became the program's all-time leading point producer, classmate Tristan Earle (Millrift, Pa.) tallied his 100th career point and Christopher Doerr (Pleasantville, N.Y.) finished with 15 saves in goal as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team scored a hard fought 11-9 victory over St. Joseph's-L.I. Saturday afternoon.

Mount Saint Mary never trailed in the game, but after a Josh Shaw goal for the Golden Eagles early in the first period, the Knights would not lead by more than three goals until a four goal run late in the third and early in the fourth period that spread the lead to 11-6 with just over five minutes left in regulation time.

After the Knights scored four of the six goals in the opening 15 minutes, the two teams split six goals in the second frame, with the Mount carrying a 7-5 lead into halftime. Ryan Maraio (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Nicholas Graziano (Franklin Square, N.Y.) scored consecutive goals early in the second stanza to give the Knights a 6-3 lead and Danny Kugler (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) scored with 1:45 left before halftime to give the Knights the two goal lead at the break.

St. Joseph's-L.I. outshot the Mount 19-13 before halftime and held a slim 18-16 edge in groundballs over the opening 30 minutes. The Golden Eagles won nine of the 13 face-offs in the first half and each team scored with the man advantage.

In an even second half, each team scored once in the third frame and three times in the fourth. With the Knights leading 9-6 in the fourth quarter, Doerr went to work, making six saves, including three in a 22 second span to turn the Golden Eagles rush aside.

Michael Gallucci (Northport, N.Y.) and De Meo gave the Knights some breathing room with back-to-back goals just 30 seconds apart to push the lead to 11-6, before St. Joseph's-L.I. mounted one more attack with three straight goals to pull to within the final two goal decision.

De Meo finished the game with six points, scoring two goals and assisting on four others. The point that broke the point record came on the assist of Gallucci's goal in the fourth period. De Meo stands alone atop the point leaderboard with 177, passing Nick Findlay's previous mark of 175. He closed out a solid all-around game with three groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers.

Earle's 100th career point came on an assist on the Mount's first goal of the game and he finished with a goal and two helpers in the game. He is the fifth player in program history to surpass 100 points in a career and stands with 102.

Graziano finished off a strong game with two goals and an assist, with Kugler potting three goals for the Knights. Peter Beidl (Clifton Park, N.Y.) caused four turnovers for the Mount and picked up three groundballs, with Joseph Timmons (Staten Island, N.Y.) winning seven face-offs.

Doerr reached double-figures in saves for the seventh time in as many outings this season and made at least two stops in each period. He stopped nine shots after halftime, including six in the fourth period, and rounded out the game with three groundballs. He has made 91 saves through the season's first seven games and improved his save percentage to .511 on the season with Saturday's effort.

The visitors were led by four goals and five points from Scott Reece with Shaw posting a goal and three helpers. Declan Canevari won 16 face-offs and Andrew Yoli made eight saves in goal.

For the game, St. Joseph's held the advantage in shots 47-26, shots on goal 24-19 and groundballs 30-27. The Knights were an efficient 20-for-22 in clearing chances and they finished 3-for-4 in man-up chances.

Saturday's win pushes the Mount to 3-4 overall on the season and evens its league record at 1-1. The Knights open a busy week on Monday when they play host to Manhattanville. Face-off with the Valiants is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
