Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team will play its final home regular season game of the season on Tuesday night when it welcomes the United States Merchant Marine Academy to the Kaplan Center. At A Glance: At 17-5 overall and 13-3 in Skyline Conference play, the Knights find themselves ranked eighth in the Atlantic Region in the first NCAA Division III Regional Rankings. The Mount is coming off a 63-59 road win at Farmingdale State on Saturday in which it held the Rams to 27.9-percent shooting for the game.
Sophomore
Elizabeth Limonta (Stewart Manor, N.Y.) came off the bench to lead the Knights in scoring with 13 points, while
Lyndsay Pace (Cranford, N.J.) and
Jessica Rini (Seaford, N.Y.) each chipped in with 10 points.
Maite Gritsko (Milford, Conn.) closed out a strong all-around game with seven points, five assists and a career-high 11 rebounds.
Heading into Tuesday tilt with the Mariners, Rini leads the Knights in scoring with 11.5 points per game and is shooting 44.7-percent from the floor.
Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.) is good for 10.0 points per outing and leads the team with 9.8 rebounds per contest and 28 blocked shots on the season.
Gritsko has handed out a team-high 45 assists on the season and is averaging 4.5 rebounds and 4.4 points per game. Freshman
Jordyn Hellpap (Hackensack, N.J.) has made a team-high 32 three-point field goals, while
Bridget Kelly (Farmington, Conn.) is contributing 6.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game to go along with a team-high 36 steals.
The Knights currently rank inside the top-5 in the conference in six categories, including scoring defense where it leads the way in the Skyline Conference with 47.5 points allowed per contest.
Scouting USMMA: The Mariners come to town at 11-11 overall and 7-9 in league play and fighting for the final berth in the Skyline Conference Championship. USMMA has dropped its last three outings and four of its last six overall, including a tight 51-45 road loss at Coast Guard on February 12. Kaleigh D'Arcy led the team in scoring with 10 points and added four steals in the loss.
Through 22 games, D'Arcy leads the Mariners in nearly every statistical category; including scoring (11.1), assists (2.3), blocks (0.9) and steals (2.1). Shelby Peters paces USMMA on the glass, hauling in 8.2 caroms per night and is shooting a team best 47.1-percent from the floor.
Coming into Tuesday's contest, the Mariners rank seventh in the Skyline Conference in scoring, but sit second in scoring defense, allowing just over 50 points per contest.
Last Meeting: The Knights held the Mariners to one point in the final 5:40 of regulation time on January 14 and pulled away for a 50-38 road win. Hellpap led the Knights with 10 points as the Mount shot nearly 43-percent for the game. Rachel Wehlburg led USMMA with 10 points as the Mariners were held to 20.7-percent shooting by the Mount Saint Mary defense.
What's Next: The Knights will close the 2016-17 regular season on Saturday when it travels to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off with the Bears.
