Newburgh, N.Y. – Senior
Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) assisted on three goals and
Claire Newman (Cromwell, Conn.) scored her first goal of the season as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team ran its winning streak to six games on Tuesday with a 4-0 win over visiting College of Mount Saint Vincent.
The Knights got the scoring started in the 27
th minute when Newman found the back of the net for the first time in 2017. She headed in a crossing pass from Ribadeneyra off a corner kick at 26:52 for the only goal of the opening 45 minutes.
After a tightly contested first half, Mount Saint Mary held a slim 6-5 lead in shots at the intermission and took four of the five corner kicks in the first half. Senior
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) finished the first stanza with three stops for the Knights.
Mount Saint Mary carried the play after halftime, allowing only two Mount Saint Vincent attempts in the second half. The Mount put the game away with three goals in just over six minutes in the middle stages of the second period to stay unblemished in conference play.
Senior
Nicole Cavallo (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) finished off her second goal of the season at 70:25, with
Bridget McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y.) adding her team leading 12
th of the season just over five minutes later.
Jessica Lanning (Hicksville, N.Y.) closed out the scoring in the game with her fifth of the season at 76:33.
Newman became the 13
th different player to score a goal on the season for Mount Saint Mary and is one of seven players with a game winning goal on the year. McKeever moved her team lead in goals to 12 and points to 32 with a three point night, while Ribadeneyra moved her team lead in helpers to 10 and her point total to 28.
Riley earned her third shutout of the season on Tuesday, finishing with four saves. She lowered her goal against average to 1.07 on the season and raised her save percentage to .808. Elizabeth Martin closed the night with seven stops for the visitors.
At 9-2-1 overall on the season and 3-0-0 in Skyline Conference play, the Mount will look for its seventh straight win on Saturday against St. Joseph's-L.I. Kick-off at Kaplan Field is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
