Gina Rivera (Washingtonville, N.Y.) scored her first career goal with
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) and
Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) adding insurance goals as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team won its 10
th straight game with a 3-0 blanking of Old Westbury.
After a scoreless first half that saw the Knights outshoot the Panthers 17-1, the Mount finally broke through early in the second frame with Rivera's first of the season. She buried a rebound from
Allison Jones (Merrick, N.Y.) for the eventual game winning goal at the 50:55 mark of the match.
Riley followed with her fifth of the season in the 70
th minute and Ribadeneyra found the back of the net for the team leading 16
th time in the 74
th minute to close out the scoring.
Nicolette Wurglics (Glendale, N.Y.) found Riley at 69:17 before
Claire Newman (Cromwell, Conn.) assisted on the final goal at 73:13.
Rivera became the 14
th different player to score a goal for the Knights in 2017 with the game winner, with Jones and Wurglics each picking up their fifth helpers of the year. Newman assisted on her fourth goal of the season and Ribadeneyra moved her team lead in points to 43 with her goal.
Riley made the start in goal and made one save in 45 minutes of work, with
Cassidy Rykowski (Suffern, N.Y.) coming on to make a single stop in the second half. Riley's goals against average improved to 0.89 with Rykowski picking up her second career win. Alexa Higgins finished with 11 saves for the Panthers.
Mount Saint Mary controlled the play on Tuesday, outshooting Old Westbury 38-2 overall, including 14-2 in shots on goal. The Knights also dominated corner kicks 15-0 in the contest.
At 13-2-1 overall on the season and 7-0-0 in conference play, the Knights will step out of conference on Thursday when they travel to Montclair State. Kick-off with the Red Hawks is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
