Knights Blank Purchase, Record Ninth Straight Victory

Jones, McKeever each score twice

Purchase, N.Y. – Seniors Allison Jones (Merrick, N.Y.) and Bridget McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y.) each scored two goals and classmate Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) posted her fifth shutout of the season on Saturday as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team overwhelmed Purchase by a score of 7-0.

Mount Saint Mary blanked an opponent for the sixth time in its last seven outings and is now outscoring opponents 73-11 on the season. The Knights finished the game with a 34-1 advantage in shots, including 20-0 in the first half, and a 26-1 advantage in shots on target. Purchase finished the day with a slim 2-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Knights opened the scoring in the 26th minute on Saturday and went on to score four first half goals. Jones scored her eighth of the season off a feed from Nicole Cavallo (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) at 25:41 with the eventual game winning goal to start a string of four goals in just under 18 minutes of game time.

McKeever tallied her 14th and 15th goals of the season just under 12 minutes apart to push the Mount's lead to 3-0 and Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) potted her 15th goal of the season in the 43rd minute off a pass from McKeever to send the Mount to the break with a four goal advantage.

The Knights picked right up where they left off after halftime, scoring 54 seconds in to the frame and adding two more goals over the second stanza. Nicolette Wurglics (Glendale, N.Y.) buried a bicycle kick for her third goal of the season in the opening minute of the second frame, with Jones scoring her second of the game in 62nd minute and Alexa Franceschi (Red Hook, N.Y.) finding the back of the net for the fifth time in 2017 with just over three minutes left in the tilt.

McKeever finished the day with a pair of goals and two assists, marking her fifth multiple goal game of the season and her fifth outing with at least five points. She stands tied for the team lead in goals with 15 and one point of the team lead with 40.

Ribadeneyra finished off the win with a goal, tying her with McKeever for the team lead and giving her a team-high 41 points on the year. The duo has become the first players to produce at least 40 points in a season for the Knights since Marissa Segreto finished with an even 40 points in 2014.

Theresa Stinson (Troy, N.Y.) finished the contest with an assist for the Knights and along with Franceschi and Wurglics became the sixth, seventh and eighth players to reach 10 points on the season for the Mount.

Riley continued her standout season in goal for the Mount, making one save in her fifth shutout of the year. She lowered her goals against average on the season to 0.93 and raised her save percentage to .807. She ranks second in the conference following the win in save percentage and is the league leader in goals against average.

Winners of nine straight and holders of a 12-2-1 overall record and a perfect 6-0-0 mark in league play, the Knights return to action and continue a five game road swing on Tuesday at Old Westbury. Kick-off with the Panthers is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
