Stark’s Game Winner Sends Mount Saint Mary Past Maritime

Knights post first OT win since 2014

Newburgh, N.Y. – Junior Fred Stark (Hollis, N.Y.) scored his second goal of the season just under four minutes into the second overtime period on Wednesday to give Mount Saint Mary a hard fought 1-0 victory over Maritime. The overtime win is the first for the Knights since topping Sage 3-2 in double overtime on October 21, 2014.

Stark found the back of the net with 6:07 left in the second extra frame on Wednesday on the team's only shot after regulation time. He took a crossing pass from Nick Ciani (Sussex, N.J.) and tucked a shot inside the right post at the 103:53 mark of the match to give the Mount the victory in their second straight overtime contest.

A tightly contested tilt, the game saw only 11 total shots, with the Mount holding a 6-5 advantage in the category. Shots at halftime were even at 3-3, with Maritime not recording an attempt after the break until the first overtime period. Shots on goal in the game went to the Knights 4-2 with the Mount also holding the edge in corner kicks 5-2.

Stark led the Mount with three shots in the game, including two on target, with Matt Fuge (Avon, Conn.), Bobby Caronia (Ossining, N.Y.) and Jonathan Schefer (Greenlawn, N.Y.) adding shots for the Knights. Luis Jimenez led the visitors with a pair of shots in the contest.

Freshman Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) made a pair of saves in the game for the Knights on the way to his team leading second shutout. He holds a .760 save percentage and an even 1.00 goals against average in nine games played in his first collegiate season. Michael Rodriguez rounded out the contest with three saves for Maritime.

At 7-6 overall on the season and 5-1 in Skyline Conference play, Mount Saint Mary returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Farmingdale State. Kick-off with the Rams is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
