Knights Run Winning Streak To Five At Sarah Lawrence

Franceschi scores twice, Jones produces four points

Yonkers, N.Y. – Freshman Alexa Franceschi (Red Hook, N.Y.) scored two goals and senior Allison Jones (Merrick, N.Y.) scored a goal and assisted on two others as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team won its fifth straight game with a 4-0 road conference win at Sarah Lawrence on Sunday.
 
The Mount broke a scoreless tie in the 41st minute and struck twice in the final five minute of the first half to take a 2-0 lead into halftime on Sunday. Franceschi scored her first career game winning goal at the 40:18 mark of the match off a feed from Jones on a corner kick and added her second of the game just under two minutes later when she headed in a loose ball at 42:07.
 
Mount Saint Mary carried the play in the opening 45 minutes, heading into halftime with a two goal lead and a 27-0 advantage in shots. The Knights also took all three of the corner kicks prior to the intermission on Sunday.
 
Mount Saint Mary expanded its lead to three goals early in the second half when Jones potted her seventh goal of the season 2:27 into the second frame. She put home a shot from 35 yards out at 42:27 before Nicolette Wurglics (Glendale, N.Y.) closed out the scoring with 18:58 left in the contest. She finished off Jones' second assist of the evening at 71:02.
 
The Knights have scored at least four goals in four of their last five outings and show 10 players with at least two goals on the season. Jones moved into third on the team in points with 18 with Franceschi finishing with her first career multiple goal game.
 
Freshman Cassidy Rykowski (Suffern, N.Y.) made her first career start in goal on Sunday and picked up her first career shutout without having to make a save in the tilt. Madison Mertsch stopped 11 Mount Saint Mary shots in the game for the Gryphons.
 
The Knights rounded out the game with a 37-0 advantage in shots, including a 15-0 edge in shots on goal. The Mount took five more corner kicks after halftime to finish with an 8-0 advantage in the category for the game.
 
At 8-2-1 overall and a perfect 2-0-0 in conference play, the Knights will put their winning streak on the line Tuesday evening when they play host to the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Kick-off with the Dolphins is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
