Mount Saint Mary Edged On The Road At Bard

Dolan nets second goal of the season

Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team dropped its second straight decision and fell to Bard for the first time since the 2010 campaign on Wednesday following a hard fought 2-1 road defeat at the Raptors. Sophomore Joey Dolan (New Paltz, N.Y.) tallied his second goal of the season for the Knights.

Following a scoreless first half in which the Raptors outshot the Knights 11-2, Bard finally broke through to take a one goal advantage early in the second stanza. Nick Shenberger potted his second goal of the season off a passing combination from David Mamukelashvili and Antonio Scanni at the 57:01 mark of the match to move in front 1-0.

Mount Saint Mary would level the score at a goal apiece just over five minutes later when Dolan finished off a penalty kick in the 63rd minute. His goal is his team leading second of the season and was the Mount's first tally since he scored in the 84th minute of the season opener against the Culinary.

With the game tied at a goal apiece, the Raptors got the eventual game winner in the 73rd minute when Bard was awarded a penalty kick of its own. Austin Higgins put away the deciding tally at 72:41 to move Bard to 2-0-1 overall on the season.

Mount Saint Mary would have a pair of corner kicks in the final 10 minutes of regulation and Bard keeper, Taylor Bond, was forced to make a save on a Dolan header in the closing seconds, but the Knights could not find the equalizer.

Dolan led the Mount with half of its six shots in the game, including a pair on target. Fred Stark (Hollis, N.Y.), Matt Fuge (Avon, Conn.) and Jonathan Schefer (Greenlawn, N.Y.) each finished with one shot in the contest for the Knights.

Senior Tyler Biscone (Garden City, N.Y.) made a season-high four saves in the game for Mount Saint Mary and has now made eight saves and holds a 1.44 goals against average in nearly 250 minutes of work. Bond rounded out the contest with four stops for Bard.

Bard finished the day with a 21-6 advantage in shots overall, but held just a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. The Knights doubled up the Raptors in corner kicks, 8-4.

Wednesday's loss, which snapped a five game unbeaten streak against Bard for the Mount, drops Mount Saint Mary to 1-2 overall on the season. The Knights will return to action on Saturday when they take on Potsdam in the first game of the Potsdam College Cup. Kick-off with the Bears is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
