Potsdam, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team suffered its third straight loss on Saturday afternoon, following a 3-2 loss at Potsdam in the opener of the Potsdam College Cup. Sophomores
Bereket Watts (Southold, N.Y.) and
Joey Dolan (New Paltz, N.Y.) scored for the Knights.
Watts gave the Knights a 1-0 lead in the late stages of the first half when he found the back of the net for the second time this season. He cleaned up a rebound off the foot of Fed Stark (Hollis, N.Y.) to send the Knights into the break with a one goal edge.
The Knights maintained the advantage until the 65
th minute when Potsdam got the game even when Brandon Laurin turned a Mount Saint Mary turnover into his first goal of the season at the 64:10 mark of the contest.
Saturday's game would remained tied at 1-1 for 46 seconds when Dolan potted his team leading third goal of the season at 64:56. He finished off a feed from
Eric Hayes (Southampton Beach, N.Y.) to give the Knights their second one goal advantage of the game.
The Bears would battle back again to knot the score at 2-2 with just under 15 minutes left in regulation on a Connor DeSantis marker and got the game winner with just over a minute left in regulation to escape with the win. Chris Schrum's header found the back of the net at 88:58 to give the Bears the deciding tally.
Dolan pushed his team lead in points to seven with his third goal of the season, while Hayes picked up his first point of the season with an assist. Stark also recorded his first assist of the season and is a tie with
Matt Fuge (Avon, Conn.) for third on the team in points with three.
Senior
Tyler Biscone (Garden City, N.Y.) rounded out the day with four saves in goal for the Knights, with Nick Davies picking up the win with three saves for Potsdam.
The Bears finished the game with 17-11 advantage in shots and a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. Potsdam doubled up the Mount in corner kicks, 8-4.
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 1-3 overall on the season. The Knights will return to action on Sunday when they take on King's (Pa.) at 12:00 p.m.
