Mount Saint Mary Drops Double Overtime Heartbreaker At Drew

Pascual nets first goal of the season

Madison, N.J. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team returned to action on Tuesday night, suffering a 2-1 loss in double overtime loss on the road at drew. The Knights, who surrendered the game winning goal in the final minute of the second extra frame, got their goal from sophomore Hannah Pascual (Freeport, N.Y.).
 
Drew struck first in the game with Erin Connors scoring her fourth goal of the season in the 24th minute. She won a 50-50 ball and drove a shot in the back of the net at 23:49 to give the Rangers and early one goal advantage.
 
The Rangers would take the one goal lead into the intermission on Tuesday after being outshot by the Mount 8-4.  Drew keeper Ryan Jackson made a pair of stops before halftime to keep the Rangers in front after 45 minutes.
 
Trailing by a goal with just over 20 minutes left in regulation, the Knights evened the game on Pascual's first of the season. She took a pass from Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) and beat Jackson at 69:33 to tie the game at 1-1.
 
With the game tied at a goal apiece after 90 minutes of regulation and 10 minutes of overtime, Drew finally found the game winning in the final minute of extra time. The Knights had three attempts in the second overtime period and a corner kick, but Jackson made one save to keep the game even.
 
Drew scored on its second shot of the second overtime period with Dani Millick chipping the ball over Mount Saint Mary keeper, Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.), with 42 seconds left in the contest.
 
Mount Saint Mary finished the game with a 16-11 advantage in shots, led by six attempts from Bridget McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y.) in the game. Corner kicks were even at 4-4 in the contest.
 
Riley finished the game with two saves, with both coming in the second half, while Jackson stopped six Mount Saint Mary shots to earn the win.
 
Tuesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 1-5 overall on the season. The Knights will return home on Friday when they open Skyline Conference play against Sarah Lawrence. Kick-off with the Gryphons is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
