Mount Saint Mary Blanked By Montclair State, 4-0

McKeever, Ribadeneyra named to All-Tournament Team

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team was shutout on Saturday night in the final of the 2016 MSMC Tournament by Montclair State, 4-0. Juniors Bridget McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y.) and Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) were named to the event's All-Tournament Team following the game.
 
Montclair State got the eventual game winning goal in the 14th minute when Tyler Madison curled a ball inside the left post from the top of the box at 13:03 to give the Red Hawks an early 1-0 lead. Montclair State doubled its lead in the 31st minute when tournament MVP, Ashley Koester, finished off a pass from Christine Mayorga for a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
 
The visitors outshot the Mount 6-3 in the opening 45 minutes and held a 4-0 edge in corner kicks at the break.
 
Montclair State maintained a two goal edge until a pair of goals late in regulation sealed the win. Koester assisted on a Daniella Greco tally in the 76th minute and Emily Beenders potted her fourth goal of the season in the 83rd minute to close out the scoring in the game.
 
Koester and Beenders each finished the game with a goal and an assist for Montclair State, with Koester leading the team with three shots.
 
Allison Jones (Merrick, N.Y.), Stephanie Surrusco (Coram, N.Y.) and Nicole Cavallo (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) each finished with a shot for the Knights in the game.
 
Junior Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) closed the contest with four saves, while Montclair State keeper, Molly Barrow, earned the shutout without having to make a save in the game.
 
Montclair State finished the game with a 15-4 advantage in shots, including an 8-0 edge in shots on goal. The Red Hawks took all seven corner kicks in the game and were whistled for seven offside infractions.
 
At 1-4 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary will return to action on September 20 when it travels to Drew. Kick-off with the Rangers is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
