Knights Drop Skyline Conference Set To Farmingdale State

Fragomeni, Kennan post three hits, two RBI in game one

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team closed out the home schedule on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader loss to Farmingdale State, falling to Rams 8-5 and 6-3. Senior Kristopher Fragomeni (Beacon, N.Y.) and sophomore Blake Keenan (Fishkill, N.Y.) each finished game one with three hits and a pair of RBI.

After falling behind 2-1 and then 3-1 in the opener, the Mount plated four runs in the fourth inning to move in front of the eventual conference regular season champs 5-3. Fragomeni delivered a pair of runs with a double in the big inning before Keenan pushed home Fragomeni and Matt Cahill (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) with a single to center field to close out the scoring in the frame.

Mount Saint Mary held the lead until Farmingdale State scored four times in the sixth inning and plated an insurance run in the eighth. Nick Attardi drove in the first run in the sixth with a single before Joshua Shapiro pushed home two runs with a single. Ryan Osborne drove home the team's fourth run in the inning with a single to give the Rams a 7-5 edge.

Mount Saint Mary outhit Farmingdale State 12-8 in game one, with Fragomeni and Keenan each going 3-for-5. Both players doubled in the game, with Fragomeni scoring a run and both players driving in two. Rob Peccerillo (State Island, N.Y.) rounded out the opener 2-for-5 with a double.

Keenan suffered the game one loss on the mound, allowing six earned runs on five hits in 5.1 innings of work. David Ortero Jr. picked up the win in relief for Farmingdale State, with Kevin Cashman recording the save with two scoreless innings of work.

In game two, Farmingdale State methodically built its lead with single runs in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings and two runs in the third. Osborne opened the scoring with a run scoring double in the first and the two run third was featured by an RBI on a hit by pitch by Christopher Reilly and a sacrifice fly from Domenic Palumbo.
Mount Saint Mary got on the board with an RBI single from Albert Eastwick Jr. (East Elmhurst, N.Y.) that delivered Keenan and later scored two more unearned runs in the sixth, including the team's final run when Peccerillo scampered home on a wild pitch.

The Knights managed just five hits in game two, with five different players recording a single. Keenan finished 1-for-1 with two runs and a pair of walks, with Peccerillo adding a run and a walk for the Knights.

Christopher Ruggiero (Newburgh, N.Y.) fell to 0-3 on the season after allowing four runs and walking four in 2.1 innings of work.
