Knights Earn Split Against Preseason Favorite Old Westbury

Peccerillo goes 3-for-3 in game one

Old Westbury, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team earned a split on the road at conference favorite Old Westbury on Saturday, dropping game one 6-1 before rebounding for a 5-2 victory in game two. Rob Reccerillo (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded three hits in game one, while Chris Wolfe (Beacon, N.Y.) earned his first win of the season in game two.

In the game two win, Mount Saint Mary jumped in front by two in the second inning and never trailed in the game. Jimmy Papineau (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) got the Knights on the board with a run scoring single and Joey Pugliese (Highland, N.Y.) delivered Peccerillo with a single later in the frame.

After the Panthers got a run back in the bottom of the second inning, the Mount plated two more runs in the fourth inning and tacked on an insurance run in the fifth. Vincenzo Pepe (Middletown, N.Y.) launched a home run in the fourth and Pugliese picked up his second run producing base hit, delivering Peccerillo for a second time.

The insurance run was produced on a Blake Keenan (Fishkill, N.Y.) triple that pushed home Kristopher Fragomeni (Beacon, N.Y.) who led off the inning with a single.

Five Mount Saint Mary players finished game two with a pair of hits, with Pepe and Pecerillo each going 2-foir-3 with two runs scored. Pugliese rounded out the contest 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and a stolen base.

Wolfe picked up his initial win of the season in game two with 5.0 strong innings of work. He allowed two earned runs on five hits, striking out one. Ryan Turton (Westbury, N.Y.) earned the save with two scoreless innings of relief.

In Saturday's opener, the Knights broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with a single run to move in front 1-0. Peccerillo drove in the Mount's lone run of a game with a double that chased home Tom Huvane (Eastchester, N.Y.).

Old Westbury answered the run with one in the fifth, two in the sixth and three more in the seventh. Paul Rapoli and Louis Selino each drove in runs with triples in the sixth and the Panthers finished the game with six extra base hits.
