Knights Roll Past Dolphins, 20-8

Four players finish with at least six points

Riverdale, N.Y. – Four players recorded at least six points and sophomore Christopher Doerr (Pleasantville, N.Y.) made 12 saves in goal as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team cruised to a Skyline Conference road win at Mount Saint Vincent, topping the Dolphins 20-8.
 
Tristan Earle (Millrift, Pa.) got the scoring started early for the Knights, getting the Mount on the board 28 seconds in the contest off a feed from Dylan De Meo (Franklin Square, N.Y.).
 
After building a 4-2 lead through 15 minutes of play, the Mount erupted for seven goals in the second quarter to take a commanding 11-3 lead into halftime. Earle scored three times in the second stanza for the Knights and De Meo helped on three more goals to close out the half.
 
After 30 minutes of action, Mount Saint Mary held a 23-13 advantage in shots, including an 18-8 edge in shots on target. The Knights also cashed in a pair of man-up goals prior to halftime.
 
Mount Saint Vincent held the Knights to just a single goal in the third period and ran off four straight tallies to close the third and open the fourth to pull to within 12-8 with 12:39 left in regulation. Danny Kugler (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) ended a long scoring drought for the Knights with 11:19 left in regulation and the Mount went on to score the final eight goals of the game to coast to their first conference win of the season.
 
Earle and Joseph Rizzotti (East Meadow, N.Y.) each finished with five goals and an assist, with De Meo scoring twice and finishing with eight points following six assists on the day. Kenneth Gallagher (Northport, N.Y.) rounded out a strong day with two goals and four helpers for the Knights.
 
Kugler totaled five points in the win with three goals and a pair of assists and led the team with a pair of groundballs. Kugler, Caleb Hildebrand (Bristol, Conn.) and Nicholas Wise (Pine Bush, N.Y.) each finished the day with two caused turnovers.
 
Doerr earned his ninth win of the season in goal, stopping 12 shots for the Knights. He has made 113 saves on the season and holds an 8.18 goals against average.
 
For the game, Mount Saint Mary finished with a 50-31 advantage in overall shots and a 35-20 edge in shots on goal. The Knights also won 16 of the 31 face-offs in the game, with Brendan Nestola (Merrick, N.Y.) winning 15.
 
With the win, Mount Saint Mary moves to 9-2 overall and to 1-1 in league play. The Knights will return to action at home on Wednesday night when they play host to Western Connecticut. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
