Baseball Squares Conference Record With Road Sweep At Mount Saint Vincent

Kennan connects on home run in opener, draws four walks in game two

New Rochelle, N.Y. – Sophomore Blake Keenan (Fishkill, N.Y.) ripped a home run in game one and drew four walks in Sunday's night cap as the Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team stopped a eight game skid with convincing 16-2 and 9-6 wins on the road at Mount Saint Vincent.

The Knights stormed out to a 9-0 lead following a six run second inning in the opener and allowed the Dolphins just single runs in the second and sixth frames. Keenan drove out a two-run home run in a three run first inning for the Mount with Tom Huvane (Eastchester, N.Y.) picking up a run scoring single and Louie Rivera (Linden, N.J.) driving home Huvane and Rob Peccerillo (Staten Island, N.Y.) in the big second inning.

Mount Saint Mary blew the game further open with four runs in the fifth and tacked on three more in the sixth to account for a season-high 16 runs. Ryan Hayes (Robbinsville, N.J.) ripped a two-run double in the fifth and Peccerillo drove in a pair of runs with a single in the sixth.

The Knights pounded out 18 hits in the opener and saw five different players record multiple hits. Hayes went 3-for-4 with two RBI and four runs scored, while Huvane finished up 3-for-4 with two runs and two driven in. Keenan scored three times for the Knights in game one with Rivera and Kristopher Fragomeni (Beacon, N.Y.) each posting two hits and two runs scored.

Kevin Duffy (Wallingford, Conn.) moved to 3-2 on the season following 5.0 strong innings in game one. He surrendered one run on five hits and struck out five. James McCleary (Floral Park, N.Y.) came on to work the final 2.0 innings, allowing a run on two hits.

The Knights got off to another quick start in game two, but could not pull away from Mount Saint Vincent until two runs in the sixth broke a 4-4 tie. The Dolphins would get a run back in the home half of the sixth, but three more runs from the Knights in the seventh sealed the sweep.

Matt Cahill (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) singled home Rivera to open the scoring in the first and Fragomeni delivered Rivera with a double in the fourth to move the Mount in front 4-3. Huvane also ripped a run scoring double in the sixth to give the Knights a 6-4 advantage and Cahill put the game away with a two-run single in the seventh.

The Knights picked up 12 more hits in game two, getting a 4-for-5 performance from Rivera. He hit a double and a triple and scored three times for the Knights. Cahill finished up game two 4-for-5 with two runs and three RBI with Peccerillo going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Keenan scored a run for the Mount and drew four walks in the game. He stole a pair of bags for the Knights, with Cahill rounding out a strong performance with three steals.

Riley Stong (Newburgh, N.Y.) made the start and went 4.0 innings, with David Hobbs (East Rockaway, N.Y.) collecting the win in relief, working one inning.

Sunday's sweep moves Mount Saint Mary to 7-17 overall on the season and to 2-2 in conference play. The Knights will be back on the diamond Tuesday when they play host to non-conference foe Staten Island. First pitch on campus is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
