Men’s Lacrosse Cruises To Sixth Straight Victory

De Meo, Kugler score four goals apiece

Purchase, N.Y. – Paced by four goals each from Dylan De Meo (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and Danny Kugler (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team picked up its sixth straight win to open the season on Wednesday night with a 17-8 road triumph at Manhattanville. The victory pushes the Mount past its win total from 2015 and moves it to within one win of matching the most in a season.
 
Mount Saint Mary sprinted out to a 3-0 lead in the opening two-and-a-half minutes of game and broke the game open with a three goal run to close the first quarter and take a 6-1 lead after 15 minutes of play. Kugler and Joseph Rizzotti (East Meadow, N.Y.) each scored twice in the opening stanza for the Knights and De Meo added a goal and three helpers.
 
The Mount scored four of the five goals in the second stanza to carry a commanding 10-2 advantage into the intermission. Kenneth Gallagher (Northport, N.Y.), De Meo and Kugler all scored in the final five minutes of the period to open the eight goal halftime lead.
 
The Knights dominated the opening 30 minutes of Wednesday, outshooting Manhattanville 29-2 overall and 18-2 in shots on goal. The Mount also took a 21-13 groundball advantage into the intermission.
 
Mount Saint Mary continued its strong offensive performance in the second half, pouring in seven more goals on its way to reaching at least 15 tallies in each of its six games this season. De Meo added two more goals in the third quarter, pushing his team-high point total to 35 on the season.
 
The Knights featured seven different goals scorers and six players with at least two goals in the game. De Meo finished the game with seven points and two groundballs, with Tristan Earle (Millrift, Pa.) and Sebastian Cina, Jr. (Colts Neck, N.J.) each recording two goals and an assist.
 
Senior Brendan Nestola (Merrick, N.Y.) had a big night for the Mount in face-offs, going 20-for-23 in the game and scooping a team-high seven groundballs. Joe Moschetto (East Islip, N.Y.) and Michael Capetola (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J.) each picked up five groundballs and Peter Beidl (Clifton Park, N.Y.) caused a pair of turnovers.
 
Sophomore Christopher Doerr (Pleasantville, N.Y.) picked up his sixth win of the season in goal, making just a single save and securing two groundballs. Zach Hoffman finished up with 15 saves in goal for the Valiants.
 
Mount Saint Mary finished the game with a 53-18 edge in shots, including a 32-9 advantage in shots on goal. The Knights won the groundball battle 48-29 and finished the night 15-for-18 in clearing attempts and 22-for-29 in face-offs.
 
At 6-0 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary will return home on Saturday for a non-conference matchup with Centenary. Face-off with the Cyclones is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
