Mount Saint Mary Tops Becker, Runs Winning Streak To Five Games

Trio of Knights score four goals

Newburgh, N.Y. – Three Knights scored four goals and sophomore Dylan De Meo (Franklin Square, N.Y.) totaled seven points as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team picked up its fifth straight win to open the season with an 18-10 victory over Becker on Monday evening.
 
Mount Saint Mary trailed after one quarter for the first time this season on Monday. Following two quick goals from the Mount to open the scoring in the game, the visitors ripped off the next four goals and five of the final six in the period to take a 5-3 advantage after 15 minutes of action.
 
Following the sluggish start, Mount Saint Mary scored the next 12 goals in the game, including five in the second period to carry an 8-5 lead into halftime. Gallagher and De Meo each scored three times before halftime, with De Meo adding an assist.
 
The Knights finished the opening 30 minutes with a 22-17 advantage in shots, while Becker held a 20-18 edge in groundballs at the break.
 
The Mount continued its run in the third quarter, potting seven more goals to push its lead to 15-5 heading into the final period. Joseph Rizzotti (East Meadow, N.Y.) and Vincent Escudero (Bridgewater, N.J.) each scored twice in the third period to go along with an assist.
 
Becker finally got back on the board early in the fourth quarter to stop the 12 goal run from the Mount and outscored the Knights 5-3 in the final stanza. The Mount equaled its most goals in a game on the night, but allowed double-figure goals for the first time this season.
 
De Meo paced the offensive attack with four goals and three assists and moved into the team lead in points with 28 on the season. He moved into fifth place all-time at Mount Saint Mary with his scoring output with 78 points. He finished off the game with four groundballs and three caused turnovers.
 
Kenneth Gallagher (Northport, N.Y.) and Danny Kugler (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) each scored four times for the Knights in the game, with Kugler adding an assist, two groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers. Rizzotti finished off the night with two goals and two helpers to go along with five groundballs, while Escudero potted three goals, adding an assist and four groundballs.
 
Joe Moschetto (East Islip, N.Y.) rounded out the game with three groundballs and three caused turnovers, while Brodie Nuzzi (Levittown, N.Y.) produced two caused turnovers and scooped three groundballs.
 
Sophomore Christopher Doerr (Pleasantville, N.Y.) continued the strong start to his sophomore campaign with a season-high 10 saves in his fifth win of the season. He contributed two groundballs for the Knights. Becker goalie, Jordan Mudd, stopped 13 Mount Saint Mary shots in the game.
 
For the contest, Mount Saint Mary held the advantage in in shots 41-34, while Becker took the edge in groundballs 40-39 and won 14 of the 26 face-offs taken in the game. Mount Saint Mary had a strong night in clearing attempts, going 20-for-21, and finished 4-for-8 with the man advantage. Rizzotti, Kugler, De Meo and Joe Pille (Oakland, N.J.) all scored with the man advantage for the Knights.
 
At 5-0 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary will hit the road for a non-conference contest at Manhattanville on Wednesday. Face-off with the Valiants is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
