Quick Start Sends Mount Saint Mary To Fourth Straight Victory

Earle totals nine points in triumph

Newburgh, N.Y. – Led by nine points from sophomore Tristan Earle (Millrift, Pa.), the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team pushed its program best season opening winning streak to four games on Saturday with a convincing 15-4 non-conference home win over Cobleskill.

Mount Saint Mary put the game away early with a six goal first quarter and a strong defensive effort kept Cobleskill off the board in both the first and third periods. Earle got the scoring started 83 seconds into the tilt with his fifth goal of the year and assisted on two other first quarter tallies to open the game up for the Knights.

Earle added a goal and an assist in the second stanza for the Mount, before rounding out a strong day with his seventh goal of the season and three more helpers after halftime for the Mount. The nine point effort is the most for a Mount Saint Mary player in 2016 and tied for the fourth most in a single game in program history.

Mount Saint Mary featured nine different goal scorers in the game and assisted on 13 goals, marking the third highest assist total in program history. The Knights have scored at least 15 goals in each of their first four contests and are averaging 16.3 markers per game through the first four tilts of the season.

Earle was one of five players with at least two tallies in the game and rounded out a strong day with four groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers. Joseph Rizzotti (East Meadow, N.Y.) chipped in with two goals and three assists and Dylan De Meo (Franklin Square, N.Y.) tallied twice and assisted on a third goal for the Knights. Kenneth Gallagher (Northport, N.Y.) and Danny Kugler (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) each scored twice in the game.

Earle and Joe Moschetto (East Islip, N.Y.) paced the team with four groundballs each, with Earle, Gallagher, Nicholas Wise (Pine Bush, N.Y.) and Mike Hargraves (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) each causing two turnovers on the day.

Sophomore Christopher Doerr (Pleasantville, N.Y.) picked up his fourth win of the season in goal with eight saves, matching his season-high in stops. He added three groundballs to the winning effort on Saturday. A.J. Galletta (Commack, N.Y.) made a pair of stops for the Mount in the fourth period on Saturday. Cobleskill goalie, John Montainiz, finished the day with 16 saves.

Overall on the day, Mount Saint Mary held the advantage in shots 43-22 and shots on goal 31-14. The Knights won the groundball battle 47-37 and had another efficient day in clears, going 18-for-21. Cobleskill won 12 of the 23 face-offs on the day.
