Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary Women's Soccer team advanced to its seventh straight Skyline Conference Championship game with a 1-0 win over the College of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins Wednesday afternoon.
The lone goal of the game came in the 31
st minute when sophomore forward
Maeve O'Sullivan (Garden City Park, N.Y.) scored her seventh goal of the season off a shot by freshman forward
Theresa Stinson (Troy, N.Y.) rebounded right to her feet.
The Knights had control for a majority of the game which led to the Dolphins having very few chances to try and score, and when those chances came about the defense for the Knights was able to make the stops. It was evident as junior goalkeeper
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) had to make only one save in the game. The blanking was her 23
rd career shutout, matching the career record at the Mount.
Freshman defender
Stephanie Surrusco (Coram, N.Y.) led the Knights in shots (3) and shots on goal (2). Forward Julia McGowan led the Dolphins with three shots, and goalkeeper Elizabeth Martin made four saves in the game.
Overall, the Knights outshot the Dolphins 9-5, and 5-1 in shots on goal. The Knights also had the advantage in corner kicks 5-3.
The Knights will play the winner of the game between Farmingdale State College and The Sage Colleges. That game will be played this Saturday, Nov. 5. Time and location are still to be announced.
