Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Knights Surge Past Privateers, Collect Fifth Straight Victory

Dolan nets team leading sixth goal

Throggs Neck, N.Y. – Sophomore Joey Dolan (New Paltz, N.Y.) scored his sixth goal of the season and Jonathan Schefer (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and Joe Bacalhau (Woodbridge, N.Y.) added tallies as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team scored a 3-0 Skyline Conference win at Maritime Tuesday night. The win is the Knights' fifth straight and pushes them to a game over the .500 mark.

Schefer potted his second goal of the season and the game winning tally early on Tuesday to give the Knights all the scoring they would need. He finished off a long lead pass from Eric Hayes (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) at the 5:49 mark of the contest to open the scoring.

The Schefer tally would be the only goal of the opening period, but the Knights maintained pressure throughout the first 45 minutes. The Mount carried the one goal advantage into the intermission and outshot Maritime 14-1 and took the only corner kick in the opening stanza.

The Knights got an insurance goal just under 13 minutes into the second half when Dolan finished off his sixth goal of the season. He headed in a shot from Matt Minniter (Mahopac, N.Y.) that banged off the crossbar for a 2-0 lead at the 57:42 mark of the tilt.

Bacalhau put the game away for the Mount just over 20 minutes later when he buried his second career goal in the 80th minute. He deposited a pass from Bereket Watts (Southold, N.Y.) at 79:32 to finish of the scoring on the night.

Dolan pushed his team lead in goals to six and in points to 15 on the night with his marker, while Watts recorded his 10th point of the campaign with his second helper of the season. Schefer and Bacalhau stand in a tie for third on the team in goals and Minniter picked up his third point of the season with his first helper of the year.

Senior Tyler Biscone (Garden City, N.Y.) posted his third shutout of the season on Tuesday, moving his goal against average to 1.52 on the season and his save percentage to .698. He stopped four saves in the game to earn the win. Michael Rodriguez closed the night with 10 stops for Maritime.

Mount Saint Mary closed the evening with a commanding 25-7 advantage in shots, led by eight from Dolan. He was one of six Knights with at least two shots in the contest. The Mount also finished with a 5-1 edge in corner kicks on Tuesday.

The victory pushes Mount Saint Mary to 6-5 overall on the season and improves its unbeaten league record to 5-0. The Knights will return home on Friday when they play host to the only other unbeaten team in the conference, Farmingdale State. Kick-off with the Rams is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
