Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team returned to action on Sunday afternoon, suffering a 5-2 road loss at preseason favorite Farmingdale State. Juniors
Allison Jones (Merrick, N.Y.) and
Bridget McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y.) tallied for the Knights.
A busy first half on Sunday featured six goals and saw the home standing Rams carry a 4-2 lead into halftime. Edasia Martinez opened the scoring for Farmingdale State in the seventh minute before Jones got the game even for the Knights just under nine minutes later. McKeever assisted on Jones' fourth goal of the season.
Farmingdale State answered with a pair of goals just over two minutes apart to open a 3-1 lead, before the Knights got back on the board with McKeever's fourth marker of the season. She finished off a penalty kick at 38:10 to being the Mount back to within a goal.
The Rams answered again late in the first half when Alexandria Tudisco finished off a penalty kick of her own in the 43
rd minute to close out the scoring in the first half.
The Rams outshot the Mount 9-5 before the break, while corner kicks were even at 2-2 in the opening 45 minutes. Junior
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) finished the first half with four stops for the Mount.
Farmingdale State maintained the two goal advantage until the final 1:35 of regulation when it potted its fifth goal of the game to close out the scoring on the day. Alyssa Parrotta chipped a shot into the back of the net in the 89
th minute to send the Rams to the three goal victory.
Jones and McKeever moved into a tie for the team lead in goals with their scoring output on Sunday, while McKeever moved into a tie for the team lead in points with 13 following a three point showing on Sunday.
Riley finished the game with five saves for the Knights in just under 69 minutes of action, while
Molly Jensen (Bayport, N.Y.) came on to play the final 21:12 of the game, making the first two saves of her career. Daniella Ford picked up the win in goal for the Rams with one stop on the day.
Farmingdale State finished the day with an 18-9 advantage in overall shots and a 12-3 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks were even in the game at 5-5.
Sunday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 4-7 overall on the season and to 3-2 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is a non-conference road game at Vassar on Wednesday. Kick-off with the Brewers is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
