Mount Saint Mary Comes Up Short At Vassar

Theresa Stinson nets goal in second half

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team returned to action on Wednesday with a 4-1 non-conference road loss at Vassar. Freshman Theresa Stinson (Troy, N.Y.) scored the Knights' lone goal in the game.
 
Vassar scored the only goal of the first half on Wednesday when Rory Chipman found the back of the net in the 23rd minute. She took a pass from Audrey Pillsbury on the left wing and opened the scoring at the 22:30 mark of the match.
 
The Brewers finished the opening stanza with a 12-0 advantage in shots and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks. Mount Saint Mary goalkeeper, Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.), finished the opening 45 minutes with four saves.
 
Vassar came out of halftime and scored twice inside the first 11 minutes of the second frame. Gabrielle Deitch scored the game winner in the 52nd minute off a pass from Rebecca Andrews and scored her second of the game just under four minutes later to give the Brewers a 3-0 advantage.
 
Mount Saint Mary got on the board in the 72nd minute when Stinson potted her third goal of the season. She spun around a Vassar defender and deposited the team's only tally of the game at the 71:38 mark of the match, before Vassar closed out the scoring in the 85th minute on an Emily Krebs marker.
 
Stinson was one of four Mount Saint Mary players with a shot in the game, joining Allison Jones (Merrick, N.Y.), Stephanie Surrusco (Coram, N.Y.) and Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.).
 
Riley finished the game with seven saves in the game after making three more stops in the second half. Vassar keeper, Stephanie Tapolsky, picked up the win with a pair of second half saves.
 
Vassar finished the game with a 22-4 advantage in overall shots, an 11-3 edge in shots on goal and a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
 
Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 4-8 overall on the season. The Knights will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to St. Joseph's-L.I. Kick-off with the Golden Eagles is set for 12:00 p.m.
