Mount Saint Mary, New Paltz Play To Scoreless Draw

Biscone makes season-high nine saves

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team had its program record winning streak stopped at nine games, but extended its unbeaten streak to 10 contests with a scoreless draw against New Paltz on Tuesday night. Senior Tyler Biscone (Garden City, N.Y.) finished the night with season-high nine saves.
 
New Paltz finished the first half with four of the five shots heading into halftime, but got just a pair on target. Sophomore Thomas Trainor (Patterson, N.Y.) kept the Hawks off the board with a pair of stops in his first start for the Knights.
 
The visitors turned up their pressure in the second stanza, outshooting the Knights 7-3, forcing Biscone to make six of his nine stops. His biggest save with just under 10 minutes left in regulation, when New Paltz had the ball inside the six off a corner kick and he stoned Thomas Preece to keep the game scoreless.
 
Mount Saint Mary would attempt just one shot in the two extra periods, with Joey Dolan (New Paltz, N.Y.) forcing a save with just under three minutes left in the game. Biscone made three stops over the two overtime frames for the Mount.
 
Trainor played a career-high 45 minutes for the Mount and made the first two saves of his career with the Knights in the first stanza. Biscone came one to finish the game and extend his shutout streak to 577 minutes. He lowered his goals against average to 1.05 and raised his save percentage to .792 in the team's sixth straight shutout. Mark Nowak finished the game with three stops for New Paltz.
 
Overall, New Paltz finished the game with a 15-5 advantage in shots and an 11-3 edge in shots on goal. The Hawks also controlled corner kicks, 8-4 in the game. Dolan, Joseph Sadofsky (Mamaroneck, N.Y.), Mike Zanfardino (Saint James, N.Y.) and Matthew Minniter (Mahopac, N.Y.) all registered shots for the Knights.
 
Tuesday's draw moves Mount Saint Mary to 10-5-1 overall on the season. The Knights will return to conference play with a key Skyline Conference road game at USMMA on Saturday. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
