Newburgh, N.Y. – Senior
Elmer Moran (Brentwood, N.Y.) scored the only goal of the game late in the first half as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team extended its program record winning streak to nine games with a hard fought 1-0 win over Old Westbury on Saturday.
Coming off the bench late in the first half, Moran potted his first goal of the season in the 42
nd minute to give the Knights a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. He cleaned up a rebound off a
Bereket Watts (Southold, N.Y.) shot at 41:30 to give the Knights the only score they would need in the game.
The Mount went into the intermission with the one goal advantage while shots were even at 5-5 in the opening 45 minutes and corner kicks were even at 1-1.
Mount Saint Mary outshot Old Westbury 6-5 in the second half and was denied on three chances to extend the lead but by Old Westbury keeper Mike Warren in the final 10 minutes.
Kenan Kizar (Manalapan, N.J.) had a drive from the right wing denied and
Joey Dolan (New Paltz, N.Y.) was stopped twice in the final 5:02 of regulation. Warren finished with nine saves in the tilt.
Senior goalkeeper
Tyler Biscone (Garden City, N.Y.) posted his fifth straight shutout in the game and his league leading seventh blanking of the season with four saves on the day. Biscone has not allowed a goal since Mount Saint Vincent's Andrew Gomez beat him on a free kick in the first half on October 1, a span of 512 minutes.
Mount Saint Mary finished the game with an 11-10 edge in overall shots and a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. Dolan led the Knights with five shots, four on goal, in the game. Old Westbury finished the game with a 4-3 edge in corner kicks on Saturday.
Saturday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 10-5 on the season and to 9-0 in league play. The nine wins in conference is the most in the program's history and the 10 wins gives the Knights double figures in victories for the fifth time in six seasons under
Kevin Longacre.
