Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team won its third straight game and extended its unbeaten streak to five games on Wednesday night with a 3-2 road non-conference win at King's (Pa.). Freshman
Hannah Pascual (Freeport, N.Y.) scored her team leading third goal of the season in the game for the Knights.
Pascual opened the scoring in the game in the seventh minute when she lofted a shot from 30 yards away into the back of the net to give the Knights and early 1-0 advantage. The goal gives Pascual the team lead in markers with three and in points with six.
The early goal was the only tally of the first period with the Knights holding a 6-2 edge in shots after 45 minutes. The Monarchs finished the opening stanza with the only two corner kicks.
The Knights doubled their advantage early in the second half on Wednesday when sophomore
Nicole Cavallo (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) scored for the second time this season in the 49
th minute. She turned a failed clearing attempt into a Mount Saint Mary goal at the 48:26 mark of the contest.
Mount Saint Mary scored the eventual game winning goal in the 58
th minute when
Emily Scheuer (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored her first career goal. She headed in the deciding goal from inside the six yard box to move the Knights in front 3-0 with just over 30 minutes left I regulation time.
Trailing by three goals, King's mounted a comeback that saw it strike twice inside the final 10 minutes of action. Allison Andrew got the Monarchs on the board in the 82
nd minute and Erin Laird scored for the fifth time in 2015 with 12 seconds left in regulation to close out the scoring in the game.
King's outshot Mount Saint Mary 10-5 in the second half to finish the game with a 12-11 edge in the category. Mount Saint Mary held a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal with King's taking four of the six corner kicks in the game.
Sophomore
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.), who was named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week on Monday, finished the game with a single save to earn her seventh win of the season. Jessica Natale made one save for King's in the game.
Wednesday's win moves Mount Saint Mary to 4-0-1 in its last five games and to 7-3-1 overall on the season. The Knights with return to conference play on Saturday when they continue a three game road swing at Sarah Lawrence. Kick-off with the Gryphons is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
