Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary Men's Soccer team returned to Skyline Conference play on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 5-2 road loss at Farmingdale State.
Michael Blaauboer (Latham, N.Y.) and
Joseph Dolan (New Paltz, N.Y.) each scored second half goals for the Knights.
Farmingdale State broke the game open early on Saturday, scoring four times inside the first 17 minutes of action. J.T. Famularo opened the scoring 65 seconds into the contest and added his second and third goals of the opening period in the ninth and 17
th minutes. Victor Romero scored the Rams' other goal in the first half 6:46 into the game.
The Rams finished the half with a 10-5 advantage in shots, while the Knights took the only corner kick in the first half.
Mount Saint Mary got on the board in the opening minute of the second half on Saturday when Blaauboer tallied for the third time in 2015. He stands second on the team in points with eight, just a single point shy of
Michael Ennis (Carmel, N.Y.) who holds the team lead with nine points.
Farmingdale State regained a foul goal advantage at the 58:54 mark of the contest when Domenico Mauro scored the Rams' fifth goal of the game. Dolan answered in the 78
th minute with his first goal of the season to close out the scoring in the game.
Blaauboer and Dolan combined for five of the team's 13 shots on the day, with
Connor Lynch (Clifton Park, N.Y.) adding a pair of attempts in the game for the Knights.
Junior
Tyler Biscone (Garden City, N.Y.) came on to play the final 79:48 on Saturday, making six saves for the Knights. Farmingdale State's Kevin Gordillo picked up the win in goal with four saves in 79:34 of action.
Overall, Farmingdale State held a 22-13 advantage in shots and an 11-6 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks in the game were even at 3-3.
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 2-7-1 overall on the season and to 1-1-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights will open a three game home stand on Tuesday night when it welcomes Maritime to Newburgh. Kick-off at Kaplan Field is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
