Rapid Recap
The Knights were back at home for the first time since October 3rd, seeking a win in a game with massive playoff implications. Mount Saint Mary entered today tied with Maritime for the fifth seed in the Skyline Conference at 12 points each. The Knights started hot, taking advantage of an early corner kick and finding the back of the net in just the second minute. It was a beauty of a set piece, with Knights freshman Brayden McMaster picking up his first career goal on an assist from William Zelaya. Trailing 1-0, the Maccabees would answer back just five minutes later on a goal from Franco Busso. The goal pulled Yeshiva level, and the game would stay 1-1 until the 20th minute. In the 20th minute, the Knights took a 2-1 advantage on a goal by Knights sophomore TJ Mark, powered by Zelaya's second assist of the game. The Knights would score again just 44 seconds later, when Mark this time assisted Zelaya, propelling the Knights to a 3-1 lead they would not relinquish. The score would stay 3-1 headed into halftime.
After four combined goals in the first half, it would be a much quieter second half. The only goal of the half came in the 69th minute, when Mark scored his second goal of the fixture on a penalty kick. The two goals give Mark a season total of seven, good for highest among all Knights scorers. The Knights would hold the 4-1 advantage the rest of the day, the game's final score. The Knights picked up three points with the win, and with some help from a 1-1 Maritime draw with Purchase, now have sole possession of the fifth seed in the conference with 15 points. The Knights control their own destiny with two conference games left to play, and the playoffs are well within reach.
The Knights will celebrate Senior Day and host their final home game of the year at Kaplan Field against SUNY Old Westbury this Saturday at 2:30 pm.
