BRONX, N.Y.- The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team got their first win of the season against Lehman College, 3-2 (25-19, 26-24, 23-25, 21-25, 16-14). The victory improves the Knights to 1-14 on the season and drops the Lighting to 6-5.
The Knights were led by junior outside hitter
Rachel Sabatini (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and freshman middle blocker
Jennifer Hanley (Sayville, N.Y.) who each had a team high 10 kills in the match. Sabatini also led the team with four aces, freshman setter
Kimberly Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) dished out a match high 30 assist. Senior libero
Jennifer Gries(Hicksville, N.Y.) had a match high of 31 digs in the match.
For the Lighting Jo-Marie Aquino was impressive with a match high of 18 kills and also had 21 digs to lead her team. Salveria Gonzalez was tied for the match high of four aces.
The Knights won the first two sets in close fashion only winning by a combined eight points. The next two sets were close again but this time was won by the Lighting by a combined six points. The fifth and final set of the match was taken by the Knights who just won by just two points.
The Knights look to keep the momentum going as they enter the Skyline season against newcomer St. Josephs College-Brooklyn. The matchup takes place at the College at Old Westbury, the match starts at 10 a.m.
