Old Westbury, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary Women's Volleyball team pushed its winning streak to three matches on Sunday with a pair of Skyline Conference victories. The Knights topped St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 25-16, 13-25, 25-13, 25-18 before closing the day with a 25-13, 25-16, 25-12 straight set victory over Maritime.
In Sunday's opener, the Mount produced at least 11 kills in each of the four sets, including 14 each in the first and fourth frames. The Knights hit .082 as a team in the match and limited St. Joseph's to a .036 effort.
Junior
Rachel Sabatini (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) closed the win with 16 kills and eight digs for the Knights, while
Kayla Kurka (Islip, N.Y.) produced 13 kills and hit .320. She added four digs and a block for Mount Saint Mary.
Senior
Jennifer Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) lifted a match-high 38 digs in the contest with
Kimberly Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) finishing the match with 45 assists.
Kaitlin O'Brien (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the Knights with four service aces and
Megan Williams (Glenmont, N.Y.) recorded six total blocks.
For the match, Mount Saint Mary held the advantage in kills 50-27 and in service aces 6-0. Total team blocks also went to the Knights in the contest 7-5.
Against Maritime, the Knights hit an efficient .312 as a team, committing just 10 miscues in 77 total attacks. Maritime finished the tilt with three more errors than kills and was held to a -.038 team attack percentage.
Sabatini and Kurka combined for 20 of the team's 34 kills against the Privateers, with Kurka hitting .467 in the contest to go along with a pair of aces. Sabatini finished with five digs and two assists for the Knights in the win.
Jennifer Gries finished off an impressive day with 13 more digs against Maritime and
Kimberly Gries handed out 28 assists, adding two digs. O'Brien lifted nine digs in the victory and Williams rounded out the day with six kills.
Mount Saint Mary rounded out the match against Maritime with a 34-17 edge in kills, while Maritime held a 7-6 edge in service aces.
Sunday's sweep moves Mount Saint Mary to 3-14 overall on the season and to a perfect 2-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights will return to action on September 30 when they welcome Medgar Evers to the Kaplan Center. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
