Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Stockton, 14-5, in Skyline Opener

GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's lacrosse team (3-6, 0-1 Skyline) dropped its Skyline Conference opener to Stockton University (7-2, 1-0 Skyline), 14-5, Saturday afternoon at the Stockton Turf Field.
 
A 7-0 run in the first quarter for the Ospreys proved to be the difference in Saturday's conference matchup. The Knights found some momentum in the second quarter, scoring the only three goals of the period to cut the deficit to 7-3 before halftime.
 
The Knights scored two of the first three goals in the third quarter to get within three, but the Knights' offense was capped there, as the Ospreys scored the final six goals of the game for the nine-goal victory.
 
Nick Bologno turned in an eight-point effort with six goals and two helpers to lead Stockton to victory on Saturday. He also led all scorers with six ground balls. Vincent Manasia tallied a hat trick and added an assist for a four-point evening.
 
Sophomore attackman Joseph Rizzotti (East Meadow, N.Y.) led the Knights with two goals Saturday evening. Freshman midfielder Dylan De Meo (Franklin Square, N.Y.) had a strong game with three assists. Freshman midfielder Danny Kugler (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) put in a two-point outing with a goal and an assist.
 
Eric Leonard picked up the win for Stockton with seven saves and four goals allowed. Freshman goalkeeper Christopher Doerr (Pleasantville, N.Y.) made an impressive 19 saves, but yielded 14 goals to fall to 3-6 on the season.
 
The Ospreys fired of 56 shots compared to just 25 for the Knights on Saturday. They also held a 35-16 advantage in ground balls.
 
The Knights get an extended break before getting back to work on Wednesday, April 8, in a road contest at Elizabethtown College.
