Maeve O'Sullivan (Garden City Park, N.Y.) scored her sixth goal of the season in the second half and sophomore
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) made three saves in the penalty kick round as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer played Sage to a 1-1 draw, advancing to its sixth straight conference championship game on penalty kicks, 2-0.
Sage struck first in the contest, pulling in front by a goal in the 17
th minute. Jordyn Logan found the back of the net off a cross from Shelby Sarraino at the 16:16 mark of the match for the only goal of the opening 45 minutes.
The Knights allowed only three shots in the opening period, outing shooting the Gators 9-3 before halftime. Sage goalkeeper, Nicole Maher, finished the first half with nine saves, with Riley stopping a pair of shots for the Knights.
Mount Saint Mary would get the equalizer in the 65
th minute on Wednesday when O'Sullivan buried her sixth goal of the season. She took a pass from classmate
Hannah Pascual (Freeport, N.Y.) at the top of the box and scored to the far post at 64:38 to knot the score at 1-1.
Following the tying goal, the goalkeepers would hold the game even through double overtime. Riley made a pair of stops inside the final 10 minutes of regulation and stopped three shots in the second overtime, including one inside the box early in the second extra session.
Maher also made three saves in the second overtime period for Sage, including a huge stop on O'Sullivan who broke in alone with 20 seconds left in the second extra period.
In the penalty kick round, Sage was shutout after Riley made three saves and one shot was fired high. Riley stopped shots one, two and four to keep Sage off the board. Maher stopped
Alaina Neddermann (Prospect, Conn.) on the Knights' first attempt and
Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) missed on the second chance. Sophomore
Bridget McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y.) converted on the third shot and
Emily Scheuer (North Babylon, N.Y) sent the Knights to the title tilt on the fourth chance.
Mount Saint Mary finished the game with a convincing 25-12 advantage in shots and an 18-9 edge in shots on goal.
Melissa Guillemette (Branford, Conn.) paced the Knights with seven shots with O'Sullivan and Ribadeneyra each adding five.
Riley finished the game with eight saves for the Mount, giving her 84 on the season. Maher stopped 17 Mount Saint Mary shots in the game.
At 14-6-2 on the season, Mount Saint Mary will take on the winners of St. Joseph's-L.I. and Farmingdale State semifinal. Opponent, game time and location will be announced following the outcome of that game.
