Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) scored twice inside the final six minutes of regulation, including the game winner with 1.4 seconds left, to send Mount Saint Mary to the semifinal round of the ECAC Metro/Upstate Tournament with a thrilling 2-1 road win at Stockton on Wednesday night.
Trailing 1-0 in the late stages of regulation time, Ribadeneyra brought the Knights even at 1-1 in the 85
th minute with her second goal of the season. She found the back of net off a long, low cross from classmate
Bridget McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y.) at 84:25 to level the score.
The game remained tied until the 90
th minute when McKeever and Ribadeneyra hooked up again for the game winning tally with 1.4 seconds left in regulation. McKeever crossed a ball in front that Ribadeneyra tapped in to send the Knights to the semifinal round of the tournament.
The goal was Ribadeneyra's second deciding tally of the season and the two assists give McKeever five on the season, moving her to third on the team in the category.
Stockton got its goal late in the first half on Christina Denney's third goal of the season in the 36
th minute. She finished a passing play from Chelsea James and Adrianna Boucher off a corner kick at 35:19 to send the Ospreys into halftime leading 1-0.
The Ospreys outshot Mount Saint Mary 11-3 in the opening period and finished the game with a 19-7 advantage in shots and a 12-4 edge in shots on goal. The Ospreys also led in corner kicks on the night, taking five of the seven in the game.
Sophomore
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal with 11 saves, just one off of her season-high. Nicole Pallante finished the night with two saves for Stockton.
Wednesday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 15-7-2 overall on the season. The Knights advance to take on New York University on Saturday morning. The Knights and Violets are scheduled to kick-off at 11:00 a.m. at Riverdale's Gaelic Park.
