Riverdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary Women's Soccer team saw its 2015 season come to an end Saturday morning following a 2-0 loss at New York University in the semifinal round of the ECAC Metro/Upstate Tournament. The Mount finishes the season at 15-8-2 overall.
New York University scored the only two goals of the game just over a minute apart early in the first half to open the final two goal advantage. Teressa Fazio scored what proved to be the game winning goal at 16:42 of the contest with Sharon Lee adding the Violets second goal at 17:57. Lee assisted on the game winner, with Lexi Clarke helping on the second goal of the day.
The top-seeded Violets finished the first half with a commanding 14-0 advantage in shots and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Knights didn't record their first shot of the game until the 76
th minute when a
Melissa Maini (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) attempt went wide right and got their only other shot of the day came from
Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) in the final minute of the contest.
New York University finished the game with a 20-2 edge in shots and an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Violets took 10 of the 11 corner kicks in the tilt.
Sophomore
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) finished the game with six saves and rounds out the 2015 season with 104 stops, a 1.03 goals against average and a .800 save percentage. She played each of the Mount's 2,270:01 game minutes of the season. Cassie Steinberg made a single stop in the contest for the Violets.
Mount Saint Mary has posted at least 14 wins in a season for each of the last five campaigns.
