NEWBURGH, N.Y.- The Mount Saint Mary women's soccer team second straight game on Wednesday night, falling against Sage in a Skyline Conference matchup 1-0. The lone goal of the game came from Savannah Mason in the 84
th minute.
The only goal of the game came off of a set piece that Cassidy Bruen took outside of the box. The ball in was finished by Mason from the top of the box into the bottom right of the goal.
The Knight maintained carried the play throughout the first half of the game. The Knights held a big lead in corner kicks and shots in the first half with a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks and a 10-1 lead in shots.
Even with the advantage in both corner and shots the Knights couldn't take the lead and at the end of the first half the score was tied at 0-0.
After the halftime break the Gators started to gain more possession. They took nine shots in the second half including the only goal of the game.
The Knights had a couple of good chances at goal both in the first half. One coming from senior forward
Melissa Maini (Massapequa, N.Y.) when the ball was passed into the box and Maini took a shot that got past the goalie but hit the post.
The other chance came right at the end of the first half when freshman forward
Maeve O'Sullivan (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) dribbled down the right side of the of the field and took a shot on goal that was saved just as time expired in the half.
At the end of the game the Knights held shot advantage 13-10 and the corner kick advantage 12-2.
In goal Mary Reily (Newburgh, N.Y.) finished the game with one save on two shots and Sage goalie Nicole Maher finished with six saves and a shutout.
The Knights next match is on Saturday when they head to Old Westbury to play the Panthers in a Skyline Conference matchup at 1 p.m.
