Mary Riley's (Newburgh, N.Y.) seventh shutout of the season and senior
Melissa Guillemette's (Branford, Conn.) team leading seventh goal of the year, the Mount Saint Mary Women's Soccer team picked up an important 2-0 road win at Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon.
Mount Saint Mary struck early in the game with the eventual game winning goal when junior
Alaina Neddermann (Prospect, Conn.) potted her first goal of the season and her second career goal in the third minute. She collected a loose ball and buried the shot 2:47 into the match to give the Knights a 1-0 advantage.
The Knights headed into the intermission with the one goal advantage after outshooting Old Westbury 10-4 in the opening stanza. Mount Saint Mary also held a convincing edge in corner kicks at 7-1 heading into the intermission.
The Mount maintained the one goal lead until the late stages of regulation time when Guillmette potted her seventh goal of the season to close out the scoring on the day.
Maeve O'Sullivan (Garden City Park, N.Y.) sent Guillemette in a on a breakaway at the 77:28 mark of the contest for her first career assist.
Riley made one save after halftime for the Knights and four overall in the game to pick up the shutout victory. She moved her goals against average on the season to 1.12 and her save percentage to .800 following Saturday's effort. Old Westbury keeper, Melissa Muller closed the day with 11 stops for the Panthers.
Mount Saint Mary finished the day with a 24-6 edge in shots and a 14-4 advantage in shots on goal. Guillemette closed the day with eight shots for the Knights and Neddermann finished with four attempts.
Saturday's win moves Mount Saint Mary to 9-5-1 overall on the season and to 5-1-0 in league play. The Knights will return to action on Tuesday evening when they welcome St. Joseph's-Brooklyn to Kaplan Field. Kick-off with the Lady Bears is set for 5:00 p.m.
