Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team featured eight different goals scorers, four players who recorded their first goal of the season and three players who finished with a goal and an assist on Tuesday in an 8-0 conference victory over St. Joseph's-Brooklyn.
Mount Saint Mary got the scoring started early on Tuesday, netting three goals over a two minute stretch inside the first 10 minutes of action. Freshman
Maeve O'Sullivan (Garden City Park, N.Y.) netted her second game winning goal at the 7:18 mark of the match off a pass from
Alaina Neddermann (Prospect, Conn.) before Neddermann scored for the second straight game at 8:36 to give the Knights an early 2-0 lead.
Melissa Maini (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) potted her third goal of the season at the 9:16 mark of the contest to give Mount Saint Mary a commanding three goal advantage.
The Knights went on to score three more times prior to halftime with
Jacqueline Davis (Islip Terrance, N.Y.) scoring her second goal of the season in the 18
th minute before
Maura Bellone (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and
Emma Costa (Rocky Point, N.Y.) each scored their first career goals to close out the scoring before halftime. Davis assisted on the Bellone tally in the 24
th minute to record her second three point game in her last three outings.
Prior to the intermission, Mount Saint Mary outshot St. Joseph's 18-0 and took the only two corner kicks of the opening 45 minutes.
Mount Saint Mary struck two more times after the break on Tuesday with
Gina Sargente (Warwick, N.Y.) and
Bridget McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y.) each tallying for the Knights. Sargente found the back of the net in the 54
th minute off a feed from McKeever for her first career goal, before McKeever headed in a pass from
Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) for her first marker of the season.
Mount Saint Mary finished the game with a season-high 21 points with Neddermann, McKeever and Davis all posting a goal and an assist. Ribadeneyra posted her team leading fifth assist of the season, while Sargente led the team with eight shots.
For the game, Mount Saint Mary finished with a 29-0 advantage in overall shots and an 18-0 edge in shots on goal. The Knights rounded out the night taking all three corner kicks in the contest.
Sophomore
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) recorded her eighth shutout of the season on Tuesday without making a save and lowered her goals against average to 1.06. Over 36 games in her career with the Mount, Riley holds a 0.85 goals against average in 3,183 minutes of work.
Tuesday's win improves Mount Saint Mary to 10-5-1 overall on the season and to 6-1-0 in league play. The Knights will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Purchase for a noon kick-off with the Panthers.
