Mount Saint Mary Holds Off Purchase, 2-1

O’Sullivan, Davis tally for the Knights

Purchase, N.Y. - Behind first half goals from freshmen Maeve O'Sullivan (Garden City Park, N.Y.) and Jacqueline Davis (Islip Terrace, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary Women's Soccer team scored a 2-1 road conference victory at Purchase on Saturday afternoon.

The Knights broke a scoreless tie in the 22nd minute on Saturday when O'Sullivan scored her fourth goal of the season. She took a pass inside the six yard box from Alaina Neddermann (Prospect, Conn.) at the 2:57 mark of the contest to give the Mount an early 1-0 advantage.

Mount Saint Mary added its second goal of the first stanza in the 32nd minute when Davis potted her first career game winning goal. She found the back of the net when she headed in a rebound at 31:12 for her third marker of the season to close out the scoring before halftime.

The Knights held a commanding 14-1 advantage in shots prior to halftime and took each of the four corner kick in the first half. Sophomore Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) made a single save in the half to keep Purchase off of the board.

Despite being outshot 11-4 in the second half, Purchase scored the only goal of the second period in the 70th minute to slice the Knights' lead in half. Mary Adams carried the ball down the left wing and snuck a shot inside the far post for her first tally of the year to bring Purchase to within 2-1 with 20 minutes left in regulation.

Following the Purchase goal, Mount Saint Mary outshot the Panthers 3-2, with both Purchase attempts in the final 15 minutes missing the target.

Riley finished the game with one stop in each half for the Knights, while Purchase keeper Briana Leon was forced to make eight saves for the Panthers.
Sophomore Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) led the Knights with seven shots in the game, with O'Sullivan adding five attempts. Neddermann finished with the Knights' lone assist in the game, recording her fourth helper of the season.

For the game, Mount Saint Mary finished with a 25-5 advantage in overall shots and a 10-3 edge in shots on goal. The Knights took all six corner kicks awarded in the contest.

Saturday's win moves Mount Saint Mary to 11-5-1 overall on the season and to 7-1-0 in league play. Next up for the Knights is a home conference contest with Yeshiva on Tuesday night. Kick-off with the Maccabees is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
