Newburgh, N.Y. – Sophomore goalkeeper
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) recorded her 11
th shutout of the 2015 season and the 20
th of her young career on Saturday afternoon as the Mount Saint Mary Women's Soccer team cruised to a 4-0 win over Mount Saint Vincent in the Opening Round of the Skyline Conference Tournament.
Riley's shutout sets the single season and career mark for shutouts at Mount Saint Mary, as she lowered her goals against average on the season to 0.95 and her career mark to 0.82. Riley has played in every one of 1,890 team minutes in 2015 and holds a .792 save percentage.
Mount Saint Mary gave Riley all the scoring she would need in the opening minutes on Saturday, potting the deciding marker in the fourth minute.
Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) found the back of the net for the first time in 2015 when she collected a feed from
Alaina Neddermann (Prospect, Conn.) off a corner kick at 3:04 of the contest to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.
The Mount broke through again at the 18:21 mark of the game when
Emily Scheuer (North Babylon, N.Y.) headed in a pass from Ribadeneyra off another corner kick to double the Knights' lead to 2-0. Mount Saint Mary closed out the scoring in the period when freshman
Hannah Pascual (Freeport, N.Y.) scored for the fourth time in 2015 off a free-kick started by Neddermann.
The Knights finished the opening period with a 6-1 advantage in shots and a slim 2-1 edge in corner kicks. Neddermann's two first half assists on Saturday pushed her team lead in the category to eight on the season.
The second half was played scoreless until the final 10 minutes of regulation time when sophomore
Bridget McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y.) found the back of the net for the third time in 2015. The Knights scored for the third time on the day off a corner kick, as McKeever tucked a shot inside the near post off a feed from Ribadeneyra with 9:46 left in the contest.
Ribadeneyra led the offensive attack with four points on a goal and two assist and is one assist shy of matching Neddermann's total on the season.
For the game, Mount Saint Mary outshot the Dolphins 14-4, including a 9-0 edge in shots on goal. The Knights also dominated corners at 8-1, taking all six awarded in the second half. Mount Saint Vincent keeper Elizabeth Martin rounded out the game with five stops.
At 14-6-1 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary will travel to Sage on Wednesday for a semifinal matchup with the Gators. Kick-off at the Albany College of Pharmacy is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
