Geneva, N.Y. – Playing on the road at #5 William Smith, the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team dropped a 2-0 non-conference decision on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) made six saves in the game for the Knights.
After the two teams played a scoreless first half, the Herons jumped out in front by a goal in the 48
th minute on the first of two Brie Ruane goals in the game. She found the back of the net just under three minutes into the second period off a pass from Evie Manning.
Ruane struck with her second goal of the day with just shy of 12 minutes left in regulation time. She tallied an unassisted goal at 78:07 to give William Smith the final two goal advantage in the game.
William smith finished the game with a 35-1 advantage in shots, including a 20-0 edge in the second half. Senior
Melissa Guillemette (Branford, Conn.) registered the Mount's lone attempt in the game.
Riley made five saves for Mount Saint Mary prior to halftime before finishing with six stops on the day. Kaileen Murray picked up the shutout for William Smith with a single save.
Sunday's non-conference loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 12-6-1 overall on the season. The Knights will return to action on Tuesday night when they close out the regular season at Maritime. Kick-off with the Privateers is set for 7:30 p.m.
